See it, Grab it, Use it.

It's important to familiarize yourself with the locations of fire extinguishers in your building, so that in the event of a fire you are able to quickly locate one. In the first thirty seconds of a small fire, response time — not equipment power — is what determines whether the fire is contained or takes over the room.

Knowing where your nearest extinguisher is — and how to use it — can make all the difference in those first critical seconds. Take a moment today to walk your workplace and note every extinguisher location. Note whether each unit is mounted in a cabinet or wall bracket, whether the pressure gauge sits in the green, and whether the annual inspection tag is current.

When a fire does start, remember the industry standard P.A.S.S. technique: Pull the pin, Aim low at the base of the fire, Squeeze the handle, and Sweep from side to side. Class A extinguishers handle ordinary combustibles like wood or paper. Class B handles flammable liquids. Class C is safe on energized electrical equipment. Class K is designed for kitchen grease. A multi-purpose ABC unit covers the first three categories and is the workhorse of most Bay Area businesses.

If your building is due for annual maintenance, monthly inspections, hydrostatic testing, or you have received a fire-marshal notice, the ABC Fire Protection team can help. We service commercial and residential customers throughout Newark, Fremont, Union City, Hayward, Oakland, San Jose, San Francisco, and the rest of the San Francisco Bay Area. Call (510) 794-6868 to schedule a visit or request a quote.

The bottom line: see it, grab it, use it. Know where your extinguishers live, keep them serviced, and train your staff so no one hesitates when it matters most.
